Here you will find answers to the most common questions we receive about What If Solved and how it all works. If you can’t find your answer here then please feel free to send us a message through our Contact page.
What If Solved enables you to set up your own personal library of everything your loved ones will need should something happen to you. It’s a user-friendly platform that enables you to organise and securely store all of your assets and important information and documentation in one place. What If Solved walks you through all of the steps you need to take to organise your assets and gives you helpful prompts the whole way so you don’t forget anything. It includes the following sections:
Once you’ve stored all of your important information and documentation you can appoint your Trustees. They will be people you completely trust who will be responsible for sharing all your essential information with your loved ones, as and when they need it.
What If Solved is suitable for adults of all ages. The universal truth is that we will all die one day. Therefore all of us need to give thought and time into organising our assets and important information and documentation. We can then be secure in the knowledge that, should something happen to us, we’ve taken care of everything our loved ones will need.
What If Solved is particularly useful for anyone who wants to:
Yes you can. At What If Solved we take your privacy and security extremely seriously – they are our top priorities. We know your information is both sensitive and personal, and you’re trusting us with the most important information and documents you own. We only use industry-leading security technology that you can completely trust and when you register the system will generate an individual encryption key just for you. Additionally, every document that you upload will be stored with an encrypted name rather than its original name, protecting your information with another level of security.
What If Solved contains a mechanism against SQL Injection, resulting in a secure database application that’s protected against potential SQL Injection attacks. Furthermore, all of your data is protected in transit with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) which is a security protocol specially developed for sending information safely over the Internet. What If Solved also carries out frequent crash and security tests through regular audits with an external company, ensuring any potential vulnerabilities are immediately and safely dealt with.
Your account, information and documents are completely private to you, and only you, by default. We abide by strict rules for handling, protecting, and allowing users to manage their own data. We only share your data with the Owners that you select and choose to share it with. You can also “unshare” your data at any time if your preferences or relationships change. What If Solved will never view your library of information and documentation – we only see your personal data, such as your name, email and phone number, for communication and invoicing purposes. Additionally your named Trustees will only ever be given access to your library of information and documentation after you die in order to fulfill their Trustee role – they will never have access to your library while you are alive.
Yes you do. What If Solved is not a licensed legal service; we’re an online service company dedicated to providing a simple, secure way to make sure you’ve taken care of everything you’d want your loved ones to have access to should something happen to you.
We offer a single, secure place to upload all of your vital information so your Trustees can easily access everything in one place should something happen to you. You can also upload scans of your important documents (like wills, contracts or policies). Since most of these documents need to have original signatures (and, in some cases, be notarised) the scanned version is not considered a legally valid document – they are more of a reference for your family so they can quickly and easily access all the essential information they need and where to find the original signed copies should they need them.
Your account and library are not in themselves legally binding. However, What If Solved guides and prompts you to create the important legal documents that you need to protect your loved ones after you have gone. What If Solved also prompts you to file key contact details of professionals such as your solicitor, probate professional, stockbroker, employer and accountant. Additionally, we ask you to file vital documentation such as life insurance, mortgages, investments and pension contracts and policies – many of which now don’t exist in paper format as they are often concluded online.
Furthermore, not all of your information or preferences need to be in legal documents to come true. For example, if you want to play Adele or Coldplay at your funeral, your loved ones just have to know about it for them to carry this out. The most important thing for these types of decisions is to make sure they are known so that they can be honoured. As you answer questions on What If Solved, it creates a record of your wishes for things like funeral, memorial, legacy, and pet care decisions. While these records don't need to be legally binding, they provide invaluable guidance to your loved ones to carry out your wishes as well as unburdening them from having to make these decisions.
No you don’t need to download anything. What If Solved is a web app and you can simply access and manage your What If Solved account by logging into our website (whatifsolved.com) from any web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer.
Yes you can. What If Solved is designed to be used on any device with an internet connection: computers, tablets, or mobile devices. For now, What If Solved cannot be used offline.
Yes you can. While we believe that providing a digital home for all of your information and documents is essential, we also recognise that some people like to print things on paper. You can download or print anything you store in your What If Solved Library. Likewise, if you share your account with someone, they can do the same.
We fully expect your wishes to evolve as you live your life. The beauty of having a digital library is that you can update and change it at anytime. You can do this easily on What If Solved. Likewise, if you create new legal documents on paper, it's a quick and simple to upload the latest version.
Well done if you have already done a lot of planning on paper. However, a worry a lot of people who only record on paper is that their paper documents might get lost or destroyed, or simply not be found by their loved ones when they are needed.
What If Solved gives you a giant online binder, desk and storage box for all of your current important information, documents and wishes. You can easily and simply upload all of the documentation and planning you have already done. We'll also guide and prompt you through all of the steps you need to take to ensure your loved ones have everything they need after you have gone – and you can be sure you haven’t forgotten anything. When you update any plans or documentations your most up-to-date versions are automatically saved and safely stored away. And of course, if you prefer, you can also download and print hard copies of anything that’s in your What If Solved Library. Importantly, when you appoint your Trustees you can have complete confidence that, should anything happen to you, they will have 24/7 access to your library from a secure platform.
A will is a great start! However, there are many elements that a standard will does not address. Many of our users already have a will, but still find enormous value from What If Solved. Firstly, a worry a lot of people have is that their documents might get lost or destroyed, or simply not be found by their loved ones when they are needed. Secondly, What If Solved guides and prompts you to create other, additional, important legal documents that you need to protect your loved ones after you have gone. Thirdly, What If Solved prompts you to file key contact details of professionals such as your solicitor, probate professional, stockbroker, employer and accountant. Fourthly, we ask you to file other vital documentation such as life insurance, mortgages, investments and pension contracts and policies. And lastly, What If Solved helps you to create a record of your wishes for things like funeral, memorial, legacy and pet care decisions, providing invaluable guidance to your loved ones to carry out your wishes as well as unburdening them from having to make these decisions themselves.
We completely understand that thinking about death can be challenging. We guide you on how to get started and enable you to go at your own pace and do as much as feels right to you. For many of our users, thinking about the end of life can be a motivating factor to live life to the fullest. It can put things in perspective and give you and your loved ones more peace of mind.
One way to cope with negative feelings around death is to prepare. We cannot control the circumstances, but we can control how we live, and how we plan. We can prevent our loved ones from having to make difficult decisions without guidance from us.
We think the best way to do this is to first familiarise yourself with how What If Solved works. Then, set aside some time to sit down with this person and walk them through the process in person, step by step. What If Solved is a simple and easy platform to use and we’re confident that when someone has used it once they will be able to confidently do so again – no matter how non-tech savvy they are!
One of the most effective ways to encourage someone to organise their affairs is to do it yourself first! Share your What If Solved Library with them, and set aside time to discuss your preferences. This helps them better understand that every responsible adult should do some planning, and makes it a lot easier for you to say, "We've talked about my wishes, but now I really want to know what matters to you. I worry about having to make these decisions for you someday. What If Solved helps you to help me, should something happen.”
Filling in all of the information will take a little time but there’s no need to feel overwhelmed by it all. We’ve broken everything down into simple, straightforward questions to make it as easy as possible and to help you think of everything your loved ones will need to know. You don’t have to fill it all out in one sitting and you can always save what you’ve done and go back to the missing sections later on. Even if you only complete one or two sections it can still be extremely helpful and meaningful to your loved ones. For example if you are a parent of young children but only have minimal savings or assets then it would be beneficial to focus on creating a will and designating guardians in the event that something happens to you. And even if you’re not ready to commit to creating your will, being able to access all of your banking and online account information could still be a lifesaver for your loved ones.
